I’m a food addicted, night owl writer who writes dark literary fantasy with complicated grey characters and plenty of violence… and a little splash of cuteness. I’m also a mother to a wacky little man and when I’m not working on my novels, you can usually find me down the yard talking to my horses about my plot problems… I also have a massive obsession with Buffy the Vampire Slayer Criminal Minds and The X Files
I have been writing novels – seriously – since 2011, but I didn’t always want to be a writer, in fact until I reached the teen years, I hated reading all together. I came across a shelf at age 11 at school, that may only be read by children aged 13+. The rebellious part of me felt incensed that I may not know what was on that shelf and right then and there I swore to myself that once I hit 13 I would read every novel on there.
It was there that I found and absorbed the beauty and mind blowing fiction of Malorie Blackman. Noughts & Crosses was like a gateway drug that sucked me in and didn’t let go… it still hasn’t to this day. From that moment on I was hooked on words. Hooked on the idea that words put into a certain order could inspire such anger, misery, joy and elation. I wanted to find it, understand it and most of all, create it myself…
Hobbies…
Reading, baking, horse riding, singing obnoxiously loudly at the expense of my family. Doing housework but only when I’m meant to be writing.
Favourite Books…
Jamaica Inn by Daphne du Maurier | A Skinful of Shadows by Frances Hardinge | Pan’s Labyrinth by Cornelia Funke and Guillermo del Toro | Circe by Madeline Miller | Noughts & Crosses by Malorie Blackman
Noveling Music…
I swing wildly between heavy rock music, metal, noughties bangers and country… like one after the other, really loudly, on repeat. It’s no surprise that I’m not my family’s favourite person when I do this.
